9/28/11 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

Have you seen how much weight Kirstie Alley has lost?!  She looks great.  She supposedly weighed in at over 230 pounds.  I am not judging but honestly it looks like she gained even more than that.  She claims she went from a size 14 to 6 which I think is baloney.  I was a size 14/16 when I was at 190 pounds and when I compare my pictures to hers she had a lot more on me.  I realize she's much taller but still, come on.  Anything above a size 16 and people are fearful to admit it; which I do understand.  It makes me irritated that she might not be truthful in interviews because she was my inspiration to begin Jenny Craig so many years ago.  It now sounds like she gained back all the weight after she reached her goal because she struggled with maintenance.  I think JC does an excellent job of teaching you how to maintain your weight and eat normal food.  I have a hunch that maybe she just didn't want to stay on maintenance, which is fine, but why can't you admit it?  Instead of JC, to get insanely small, in what seems like such a short time, her new claim to fame is a diet she created with doctors and nutritionists called The Organic Liason.  I don't know much about it to have too significant of an opinion but appetite-suppressing drinks don't sound life-long to me.  Even Tim Gunn, who stated that she looks beautiful (because she definitely does!) guesses that her new found size 4 or 6 is actually a 10 or 12.  He made the point of how we should focus less on the numbers which I agree with and try to do myself even though I admit readily that its hard.  The point is, she's a role model and when she loses the weight I want her to be honest and forthright.  I'm disappointed if these numbers were used as a marketing ploy for her new diet.   Not to mention, it makes young girls have an inaccurate perspective of body types and sizes.
