Research into the link between homocysteine blood levels and cardiovascular events is turning out to be a hot topic in the medical research community and has provided us with yet another glimpse into the importance of supplementing our diets with omega-3 fatty acids. In the most recent study, it was shown that omega-3 fatty acids are directly linked the reduction of homocysteine, an amino acid that is associated with increased risks of dementia and heart disease.
The physicians at the Longevity Centres of America have touted for years that omega-3 supplementation is great for improving vascular function, heart rate, blood pressure and lipid levels. Beyond the heart, omega-3’s provide benefits to reducing some cancer risks, improving joint function and emotional well-being. While fish has always been a traditional source of omega-3 fatty acids, it is not enough. It is important to supplement a healthy diet with additional fish oil from a source that is natural and free of mercury.
