So, I think letting my son "cry it out" is working. Last night he slept through the night and we had some serious thunderstorms. My dog ended up being the one that kept us up! He's improving from once to sometimes not even waking up at all. Some pediatrician's say that "rule of thumb" is three days. Three days of taking away the binkie, three days of not going into their room in the middle of the night, etc. It's miserable for the parents by usually by the fourth day the child starts learning how to soothe his or her self.
Yesterday my friend watched our son so I could have a day at the spa. It was glorious! I forgot what it was like to do something on my own. I've never appreciated getting my head washed and rubbed as I did in that moment. Even afterwards when I came to pick FJ up, the smile that comes onto his face when he realizes it is his Mom just melts my heart. It makes all the times that it can be difficult with a new baby worth it. It ended up being such a nice day that we went to a quaint little Mexican restaurant with my friend that watched FJ and her husband and sat outside for an early dinner. I, of course, stuck to the program and just got a salad with my own dressing that I'd brought. :) Needless to say, it was a great end to a great day.
