8/2/10 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Monday

I have a lot of friends that are trying to get pregnant right now and have a lot of the common questions about what you can/can do while pregnant. Also, a few of the older women at my baby shower had these questions because they were curious as to what had/hadn't changed. The first question was if I dyed my hair. Well, yep, I have been getting highlights every three months. My hair girl said it was safe to do it and so did my doctor. They told me that the chemicals used are no longer toxic. Now, just to be on the safe side I chose to wait until I was out of my first trimester as I educated myself on how important it is to be careful during the first 12 weeks. This is when all of the baby's vital development of the brain and organs takes place. I just thought it was important to be more cautious during such an important development phase of the baby. I was also asked if I use nail polish as some women were told not to. This remains a personal choice- I have read articles both against and for using nail polish during pregnancy. Again, I waited until the first trimester was over and now I use it all the time. I think a lot of these "questionable" things are up to you. Obviously, the warnings that say absolutely not at all during pregnancy you don't do. Just be educated and aware during your pregnancy and you should be fine.
